Thank You, Dad!

Stood guard like old tree,
forgot your lengthening shade--
a living bastion.

Tolled the bells ceaseless
to your relentless march, till
you thrust the baton.

The bells also told
that I am born to someone
special who elects.

Essentially so,
we all are God's children true;
caring, you discerned.

Less one true “Thank you”
to my dear dad would count me
one among those dead.
